Privacy policy
Last updated: .
Fermento is designed to collect as little personal data as possible. This policy describes exactly what is collected, why, and what your rights are under the GDPR.
1. Who we are
This policy covers both the Fermento iOS / Android app and the fermentoapp.com website. For any question about your data, write to contact@fermentoapp.com.
2. What data we collect
The Fermento app
Nothing leaves your device. All your fermentation data — jars, dates, photos, diagnoses — stays on your phone. There are no accounts, no cloud sync, no telemetry, no crash reporting, and no analytics SDK. The app does not communicate with our servers in normal use.
The fermentoapp.com website
- Your email address, only if you choose to enter it in the launch waitlist form. We use it solely to send you a single notification when Fermento launches on iOS / Android.
- Aggregate visit counts via Cloudflare Web Analytics — no cookies, no fingerprinting, no individual tracking. We see things like "X visitors hit /fr/ today, mostly from Belgium" — never who you are.
What we do not collect
- Names, addresses, phone numbers, location data
- Browsing history, behavioural data, ad-targeting profiles
- Any health, dietary or wellness data — Fermento is a cooking tool, not a health app
- Any data from inside the app itself
3. Why we collect it (purpose and lawful basis)
- Email address
- To send a single launch notification. Lawful basis: consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)) — you tick the consent checkbox and confirm via the link in our confirmation email.
- Aggregate visit counts
- To understand whether the site is reaching its intended audience. Lawful basis: legitimate interest (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)) — minimal, cookieless, no individual tracking, very low impact on your privacy.
4. Who else processes this data
We use a small number of trusted processors. Here is the complete list:
- Loops Inc. (United States)
- Stores waitlist emails and sends the launch broadcast.
- Cloudflare Inc. (United States)
- Hosts the fermentoapp.com website and provides cookieless analytics.
- Hostinger International Ltd (Lithuania, EU)
- Hosts the contact@fermentoapp.com email inbox.
We do not sell, rent, or share your data with anyone outside this list. There are no advertisers, no data brokers, and no marketing partners.
5. International transfers
Two of our processors (Loops and Cloudflare) are based in the United States. We rely on the EU Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) as the legal basis for these transfers — the mechanism approved by the European Commission for transfers to countries without an adequacy decision.
6. How long we keep it
- Waitlist email
- Until you unsubscribe, or up to 12 months after the launch broadcast — whichever comes first. The email is then deleted permanently from Loops.
- Aggregate visit counts
- Cloudflare retains aggregate, non-identifying counts only. We do not retain anything that could identify you.
You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email we send, or by writing to contact@fermentoapp.com.
7. Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Access — ask what data we hold about you
- Rectification — correct inaccurate data
- Erasure ("right to be forgotten") — ask us to delete your data
- Portability — receive your data in a machine-readable format
- Object — object to processing based on legitimate interest
- Withdraw consent — withdraw consent for the launch notification at any time
To exercise any of these rights, write to contact@fermentoapp.com. We respond within 30 days.
8. Your right to lodge a complaint
If you believe we are mishandling your data, you have the right to complain to the Belgian data protection authority:
Autorité de protection des données / Gegevensbeschermingsautoriteit (APD/GBA)Rue de la Presse 35, 1000 Bruxelles
+32 (0)2 274 48 00
autoriteprotectiondonnees.be
We would, of course, prefer that you contact us first at contact@fermentoapp.com so we can resolve the issue directly — but you are not required to do so.
This policy may be updated as Fermento evolves. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects any changes. Substantive changes to how we handle your data are communicated to active waitlist subscribers by email.
